Many things can cause us to be grateful and give thanks: for example, when we experience loss or suffering, we can become grateful for what we do have or are grateful when we recover what was lost, like health. We also can look at the sufferings of others and give thanks for our health, money, education, home, etc. This sort of gratitude, while good, is incomplete, especially if we call ourselves Catholics.
