On Sunday, August 12, 2018, we welcomed four novices to the Order of Preachers. Br. Andrew Martin and Br. Justin for the Province of St. Martin de Porres, and Br. Jordan Albert and Br. Dominick for the Province of St. Albert the Great. For this next year, these men will dedicate themselves to living Dominican life in a deliberate way – through prayer, study, and ministry on a daily basis. They will spend the novitiate year in Denver, Colorado at St. Dominic Church. During the novitiate year, the novices will come to a better understanding of Dominican life.
Br. Andrew Martin was born in Houston, Texas but grew up primarily in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended Tulane University where he studied Spanish and Biology. It was at Tulane where he met the Dominican Friars and got to know them through the Catholic Center and the ‘Mission Honduras’ annual mission trip. He was drawn to the Dominican motto of Veritas and the Friars’ dedication to preaching the Gospel. After graduation in 2016, Br. Andrew Martin lived and worked in San Antonio for two years where he got to know the Dominicans more, seeing the life of prayer, study, and community first-hand. He then decided to answer God’s call and apply to the Province. In his free time, Br. Andrew Martin enjoys reading, golfing, exercising, watching movies, and cooking.
Br. Justin is a native of Allen, Texas, just north of Dallas. In the summer of 2018, Br. Justin graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Mathematics. He was sustained there by the very faithful community at St. Mary’s Catholic Center, supported by a very lively Sacramental life. Br. Justin was attracted to the Dominicans because of their pursuit of Truth, their penitential spirit, and, of course, the Holy Preaching. In his free time, Br. Justin enjoys board games, especially chess and cooperative board games, soccer, and thoughtful conversations.
