On Monday, August 10, 2020, five men received the Dominican habit and entered the novitiate for the Province of St. Martin de Porres.
Br. Hunter,
Br. Jordan,
Br. Aquinas,
Br. Timothy Dominic, and
Br. Samuel began a year-long period of continued discernment of the Lord's calling as a Dominican friar. Learn more about these men at the
Meet the Friars page. Pictures of the Vestition can be found
here.
The men reported to the postulancy (pre-novitiate program) on July 21. During the following three weeks the men learned the basics of praying the Liturgy of the Hours and chanting. They also got to know one another and begin building a brotherhood within their class. As an added bonus, the class was able to attend the renewal of vows of Br. Carlos Salas, O.P. and served at the Priesthood Ordination of Fr. Joseph Paul Albin, O.P.
The novitiate is a year dedicated to living Dominican life in a deliberate way – through prayer, study, and living in community. Our novitiate is located at
St. Albert the Great Priory in Irving, Texas. During the novitiate year, the novice comes to a better understanding of Dominican life through:
Experiencing communal and personal prayer
Daily participation in the Mass
Living community life
Ministerial experience
Classes on our history, saints, constitutions, spirituality, and the vows
Attending workshops and conferences relevant to religious life
During this year the novice experiences all aspects of religious life. He grows in his ability to balance action and reflection, prayer and service, community and solitude.
Keep up with the novices and the community at St. Albert the Great Priory on
